October 26, 2026: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has recommended importing six cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from BP Singapore Pte Limited and Qatar Energy Trading LLC to help meet Bangladesh's energy demand.
The recommendations were made at the committee's 51st meeting of 2026, held virtually on Saturday (October 24), with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
According to the Cabinet Division, the committee considered two proposals submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Under the first proposal, the government will purchase five LNG cargoes from BP Singapore Pte Limited through direct procurement.
The proposed purchase is in accordance with Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, and Rule 99(2) of the Public Procurement Rules, 2025.
The recommended price is linked to the Japan Korea Marker (JKM), an international LNG benchmark, at a $0.17 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) discount.
The proposal also allows additional cargoes to be purchased if necessary, subject to mutual agreement between the government and the supplier.
