October 7, 2026: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Arun Kumar Singh could receive another extension beyond December 6, 2026, if the government accepts reports that the search-cum-selection committee (SCSC) has failed to identify a suitable candidate for the top post.
Uncertainty continues over the selection panel’s recommendation, with conflicting reports emerging about the outcome of the succession exercise. A petroleum ministry source, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that the panel had reportedly been unable to find a suitable candidate, potentially opening the way for Singh’s continuation.
However, no fresh government approval for another extension has been publicly verified. The absence of a suitable candidate would not automatically guarantee Singh an extension, as the final decision rests with the government.
