September 19, 2026: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has completed protection works for the MMBPL Gambhir River crossing, an engineering project undertaken in collaboration with IIT Madras.

The project marks BPCL’s first use of steel sheet piling for pipeline protection at a river crossing. Progressive scour and erosion during the 2024–25 monsoon had reduced soil cover over the petroleum pipeline, prompting the need for a permanent protection solution.
